Dynamic Drive - a great codebank for DHTML!

ddlogo Dynamic Drive - a great codebank for DHTML!If you are a person with little experience in webdesign, DynamicDrive.com is a great place to get started with website functions. This website has codes for image galleries, scrollboxes, hovering (when you put your mouse over an item, something happens), and all sorts of other goodies.

CHECK THESE OUT FOR EXAMPLE!

  • Lightbox Image Viewer
  • navigation bars
  • watermark background
  • frames and custom pop up windows
  • Dynamic Drive shows an example of the code on their page, the code is right there on the page for you, and they also give simple instructions to implement and tweak. Most codes’ instructions were only 3-4 sentences just to give you an idea of their simplicity. There is occasional need to download a file (to reupload to your webroot), but usually it is a cut and paste job.

Dynamic Drive is also a free codebank on the condition that you leave their name in your source code (it won’t actually show up on your page!) Information this good maintains its free nature and Dynamic Drive gives props to the avid webdesigners who share codes, and their main advertisement is to those who pick up code from other people’s websites.

When I first started designing my own websites, I didn’t start by reading a book. In fact, most of my education came from reading other people’s source codes and frequent visits to Dynamic Drive. I highly recommend any student to consider teaching themselves before starting to enrolling in a college class. First of all, it is free; second of all, it is based on what you want to do, so it keeps it fun.

The great thing about free information with intelligible method is that it makes for new styles of implementation, and that it is equally accessible to anyone with a design in mind (or without). These free source codes are largely contributed by more experienced individuals who have designed for that “special something that they’re trying to do” and then share that with other people and perpetuate the creativity and enhance the efficiency of webdesigning. ROCK ON!

    1. Really nice source of some of things which if I would have written myself would certainly have taken time as also may not have been that neat.

This post about that site is nicely summarizing as well as tantalizing enough to visit the site.

    2. I have used DynamicDrive in the past when I didn’t have the time to write a script for myself.

Once around Christmastime I decided to do something special and so I threw their falling snow (http://www.dynamicdrive.com/dynamicindex3/snow.htm) script into the footer of a forum I had at the time.

At any rate, DynamicDrive can be a great example to fledgeling web designers, allowing them to see code snippets without heavy usage restrictions, freely and openly.

      Nice article.
