What do you do if you feel your rights as a consumer have been violated, but after trying to resolve the issue directly with the company there seems to be no resolve? If you find yourself in this situation, you have a couple easy options that you can look into.

These options should only be utilized if you have attempted, but failed, to resolve the issue directly with the company. Also, you should always make a complaint in writing to the company and keep a copy for your own records. If you note that you’ve done so in your complaint to the BBB or a state Attorney General, you will have a much higher chance of seeing a resolve.

Contacting The Better Business Bureau

A common misconception about The Better Business Bureau is that it is a government agency. The Better Business Bureau is actually a private company and all of its members are paying customers. The goal of the BBB is to provide a forum between the customer and the company to achieve a level of trust.

The BBB has had a great deal of success in achieving this and can be an informative research tool for companies and consumers. There has been some controversy about its effectiveness against large corporations, but none the less, should be utilized if there are no other options.

File a Complaint with the Better Business Bureau

Contacting your Local State Attorney General

Your Local State Attorney General is your next option in filing a complaint against an unresponsive company. (And even if the company is not located in your state, you can still file because that company does business in your state). That means your Attorney General has legal authority over them.

Your Attorney General’s job is to protect you as a consumer.

Every state has an easy online form you can fill out to file a complaint with them. Also if you are filing a complaint against a company whose headquarters is located outside your state, you should also file a claim with that state’s Attorney General.

    According to the attorney that replied to the question in the link, if you signed a contract you must go through with the process as the money can not be refunded.

    I am not a legal expert by far, so you may want to consult a attorney in regards to your question.

    This financial firm: Dublin Investment Company of Buffalo Grove, Illinois won’t cooperate and in spite of our business relationship, treats me like a stranger. I attempted to reason with them, but all I get is whole bunch of nonsense. They must be either super ignorant, or super fraudulent, so either way I won’t ever do business with them. I know I should try other avenues before hiring an attorney, but a person can take only so much, and my patience is running out fast.

    shipment exported from china to germany and the agent not releasing the shipment to the consignee. The reason stated is cnee’s freind has to pay some money to this company..

    How can I get a complaint taken care. I have set up 5 appointments with Verizon to come and repair my internet which is only working intermittently at best and they have yet to show up to any of these appointments. Meanwhile I have taken off work and basically been held hostage by verizon and they still dont show up. Of course the bills keep coming and they expect to be paid? Well who is going to pay me for the money I’ve lost in lost wages not to mention my time? Thats what I would like to know? Does anyone know of anything I can do because obviously making compaint calls isn’t doing me any good.

    I am trying to get my downpayment back from a home remodeler in wi. According to Wi’s Home Improvement laws, I believe I should receive double the amount of my downpayment for pecuniary damages. I have filed a complaint with the WI agr, trade and consumer protection
    (DATCP) agency, yet, that can take up to 3 to 5 weeks for a reply.

    Can I request pecuniary damages in a BBB complaint? Should even I go through BBB, or straight to small claims court? Or should I wait to hear from DATCP? I’d appreciate anyone’s input on the matter. Thanks!


  14. I would like to file a complaint against a small business. I took my laptop to them for repair, and they accidentally caused $200 in damage to the screen.

    Since Southern Nevada no longer has a consumer affiars division for complaints like these, I’m not sure where to turn. I am a senior (age 58), if that makes any difference.

    We have placed an order online for flower delivery on pinklotusflorist.com on 26th Apr, but as it wasnt delivered on expected time of 28th Apr, we cancelled the order.
    As per their terms and policies they should deduct some nominal amount from the total amount charged as the cancellation fees, which is fine for me, but they havent reverted back anytime even after making so many phone calls and mailing them. Please suggest me some options where i can file my complaint.

    Hi,

    I bought some chips from local walmart. After eating the chips i developed severe pain in stomach and had to rush to hospital in emergency. The doctor performed Appendicitis on me. After sugery, on observing closely the chips, they contained very sharp particles which i believe is the reason why i had acute appendicitis. Can someone tell me how to file a complaint against the company who sell the chips. I don’t want someone else to suffer like i did. I have the necessary proofs to prove against the company.

    I gave my credit card number to Humana One dental insurance and they have never paid any dental claims for us and they refuse to stop billing my credit card company every month, I want to get out of their dental group but refuse to let us out. Do not deal with Humana , period, I checked with the Better Busines Bureau in Kentucky, and they have 169 complaints plus a large number of complaints in Atlanta, so do not fool with these people, they are nothing but a scam company.


  18. you know the saying you get what you pay for? We purchased a SEARS ELITE Convection oven Nov, 2008 not the most expensive out there =, but not the cheapest by no means. Since then have had the display unit on the range go out three times.
    SEARS refused to fix the unit stating it is not under warranty, I say this is a defect and they know it as there service person told us they are repairing alot to thie same model range, with that same part.

    Sears is unwilling to accept responsibility for there defective range, but would like to stick it to there loyal customers, with service calls and replacemnt parts.

    Just a warning buyer be ware, SEARS has no intent on making me a happy customer, and to quote them “Although we empathize with Mr. _____, we can no longer provide complimentary reapirs, as this would not be unfair to our other customers who are expected to pay for any out-of-warratny service.

    Again with the warranty issue when I am stating it is a maufactuer defect and they should be held responsible, are appliance now through away items and expected to last less than a year?

    Ok People, I have been reading your statements here. First of all, you all need to brush up on reading the law. One doesn’t have to be a company to have a contract with another individual, and if either party violates the contract then you have a Tort to file.

    Lastly the person complaining about their appliance from Sears. If they fixed it three times, and it breaks again after your warranty has expired, then there is nothing you can do, unless you have an extend Policy. I helped a friend with an extended Policy once, it said, if they can’t fix it, they have to replace it with equal or a higher model. So, I got him a New Stereo after they failed to supply a sufficient speaker twice.. The New Model has not yet failed since he got it a replacement.
    As far as companies like Verizon, they lost my deposit I made and applied it to another number that I cancelled on and never credited my New Number. Then they billed me saying I owed. Finally, after three months and getting the right manager, telling them I was going to pay and I was going to file a complaint, plus I had my receipts of payment, they finally found it and fixed it..

    About Mortgage Problems, Perhaps you should watch the one episode on “60 Minutes” on CBS about Mortgages and Foreclosures. You people can solve a lot of your problems if you watch 60 Minutes” from time to time or just plain listen to the news on NBC, CBS, or ABC..
    Not only did they talk about Mortgage Co’s in general, they talked about credit card companies all the time, and how they rip people off.

    David Horowitz, and I think there is a site called fightback.com, too. David Horowitz helps the consumers that get RIPPED off by companies, or helps people who have trouble getting a response from companies..

    People, stop play Playstation and Texting all the time and educate yourself by watching the educational shows and News channels that help you, or you will always be here complaining on the web..

    by the way, I helped my friend recover $100 dollars from a Technical Support Phone service that failed to fix his problem and misdiagnosed his computer problem. And that isn’t the first time I have helped someone get the problems resolved over the phone. Always ask for the manager. Document all your calls and always ask for a name or number ID they give you.. Took me about two months to fix his problem, the catch was, they didn’t tell him he had 10 days to get a refund if he wasn’t satisfied, and this error was stipulated in a complaint which I insisted to be emailed to the management. After that, about a month later, he got his $100 dollars. People look closely to your phone contracts, if you terminate early, you are at fault with a breach in your contract. If you fail to take an extended warranty, then there is nothing you can do after it breaks later when it expires. If you research and find there is a recall or defected part, then you can get it fixed for free..
    Pay attention to details, and if you don’t understand, ask a lot of questions, take names and numbers on answers they give you, this always supports your claim.

    Could you please any one let me know to how to file a case against AIRTEL.Today morning around 1pm my prepaid mobile number got deactivated by airtel, when I spoke to customer care executives they told me to submit my ID proofs with photos, (already I submitted 2 times with the details). Even though today I went to submit my documents to the Airtel office but they told dis number already been de-activated we can’t activate again. Without pre-intimation they are deactivated my number.

    Really I’m fully dissatisfied with AIRTEL, I didn’t expect from them, Customer care executives are telling it can be activate but AIRTEL office employees telling it’s not at all possible.

    Because of deactivation I have lost many contacts as well I lost two interviews which is scheduled today. Last two day I was not feeling well even though went out for submitting documents.

    Can anyone suggest me how to file a case against AIRTEL?

    from so sick inside : i went to a sales and leasing comany and leased out two stero seuround sounds .one day i went to make a payment on them and the emlpoyee who help me was having a bad day .she took it out on me .i was so hurt that i got online with the company and complaned to them not in a mean way just so they could talk to her so she wouldent do it again to some one else .well she got so mad at me she retalated by recruting other employees and they gang up on me with a vengeants .i call around two week late for pick up date on the both systums i had becouse they both stop working on us and need repairs.the girl that anwered the phone ask me the account name in polite voice ,well she herd my name and her voice changed she was been very , very rude to me ,she said why dont you try cleaning them and hung up on me .i was so mad i didnt call back till the next day. and they put the ring leader on the phone she was so polite to me ,i told her my reason for call ,then she said oh my regina why did you buy them sysumes there always coming back for repairs ,i belive there defective.i was shock i said why wasnt i told ,well i want my money back i dont want defective items .i took both systumes in and wanted all my money back well they said no if i did want them i could return them and would nmot be bill any more for them.i told them what i was told and he said he talk with her and she denied it .then he said i belive her and the complain you made on her they came and investagated it and she was found insent of it.your lieing ,then he started saying mean thing about me calling me a lier ,a thief , he even threated me buy saying all he had to do is was pick up the phone and call another company i do buisness becouse he’s good friends with the districk manger of the company and they close my account out that vcery day and never do buisness with us again he said much more to me that day ,i was hurt and hemulated i cryed all the way home ,that day i left a messege with the districk manger ,when he call the next day ,i new he was not going to help me, he belived them it was very clear .i ask him to put the money from the systume into my account and i would pay the remander of the bal,to close the account and woud never do buisness again with them .i stop payment on my other account with them be couse i falt they cheated me with systumes and want my money .they said no too me i belived the systumes where defective items till the next paymment was payed .me and my 14 year old went in that day .the girl in the front said may i help you told her the name on the account she look up and said oh i’ll be right back and didnt come back till she seen the ring leader in all this theyu stoud there with smerks on there faces just lkooking at me they would not help me i waited for 30 to 40 mins then an older lady came in the told me can i help you .i new right then she lied to me about the systumes been defective i lost out on my money i only had a few months left to owen both systumes and all my otrher accounts too. she ploted ,recruted two others employees to hurrass me they treated me bad called me names ,threatened me ,lost money ,mock me ,shamed me in front of others, her revenge was sick and mean and it made me so sick i lost alot of waight ,i cry so much over this matter i just can hold down any thing ,im have seaver panic attacks again i hadent had a seaver attack in ten years .i lost 45 pounds in the short time this all started its been about 3 months now and the ill feeling i got still happen .i feel sadden buy this i really dont under stand how 3 adoult could harraess, me you see im disable i have and they know this i have mental illness ,anxiety ,depression,post trumatice stress ,i stay in my room all the time now ,i had my illness under contol with a docters help for 13 years now thats over i have to start over with treatment. i was 222 pound now im down to 187 and still loseing .i just cant stop thinking about them and how they went to an extreem to hurt me .i just want to know why ,why did they attack me like that im a human i have filling. sense she new i was disable she seen my disablety check statment when i first applied. i fill this was a hate crime and perpusly done to me i cry as i write this becouse i dont understand it at all its truly a very sad ,sad way to treat a person there crule and hateful people . i want justes can people get away with such a cruleness .i dont have any more trust in this world i dont want too .i dont want any thing to do with this crule world any more people just are to crule for me im truly affraid to be out of my room now.im trying to file a small claims court but dont know if i have a right to .please help me find a way to get justes for my self .i need it really i do .

    I recently had my vehicle unethically reposessed after payments and been made and recieved by the company, Americredit, days before the repossession happened. The payment I made was large enough where it dropped the deliquency to under 60 days where repossssion was no longer warranted. On top of that, Ive been calling for two days to get the situation resolved to no unavail. I am told that my account is in a department that is closed due to that bad weather in Fort Worth, TX. My questions are:

    1) I’ve already filed a complaint with the BBB, should wait to see if the situation gets resolved with them before filing a complaint with state’s attorney office or should I do it now?

    2) Would there be anyway I could file a claim against Americredit on the grounds of unlawfully taking the vehicle and the unresponsiveness in getting it resolved? If so, what are the steps to do that?

    I had buy a computer before 5 months. He had said that he will give security (antivirus) for 3 years. When I had told him to update my McAfee antivirus he is saying that you will have to update that yourself.
    When I had asked him that ‘what is the meaning of 3 year security’ he said that no body updates the antivirus you have do it on your own. Is it so?

    I am being carpet-bombed by AT&T with a Discontinuation of Prodigy Personal Web Pages (PWP) Support Notice. This very annoying pop up page keeps appearing in my three computers and I have not been able to stop it because I am not in the US, I am not an AT&T customer (and I have never been one), therefore I can not establish direct contact with the company. The Better Business Bureau requires information I do not have and I am truly at sea on this matter. Can anyone suggest someway to stop this onslaught short of suicide or reporting AT&T to the State Department or the UN for international terrorism?

    I bouught a mobile home last month the company i bought it with gave me a date it would be delivered they fail to deliver the home on that day! The things that needed to be fixed were never fixed i call them almost every day and they tell me lame excuses of why today they cant come to finish my repairs! Ive already invested money on paint, light, plumbing, lot, electricity and still cant live there! Im so frustrated and mad what can i do? If i file a complaint w BBB would it actually work?   31. In July 2006 Bay Area Roofer,s Inc. installed a complete roof. The contract called for reflashing sunroom to roof which was not done. Roof leaked for five in spite of four halfhearted repair attempt,s. The owner agreed to allow me to get the complet rear house reroofed. He agreed to compensate me for this. After I had the work done he refused to pay. I attended a mediation meeting with the B.B.B.Hou. wjich he chose to participate by teleconference. I had gathered many photo,s and engineer report,s which he told the mediator were irrelavent. Is it possible to sue if the contract has an arbitration clause.

    I applied and was interviewed on 08/05/2011 by the Executives of MMG, Saudi Arabia. I was declared successful and selected. I was issued Job Offer on 09/05/2011 by MMG.( copy enclosed) on submission of my Passport and I was asked to bring medical fit certificate and asked me to bear the medical check up fee of Rs.2850 which I paid and I was found fit and the medical certificate was also submitted to them with 20 white background photos on 14/05/2011 for processing visa. I was asked to get ready to travel in 3 weeks.

    Since I was Employed with a company as Admin Manager for a Monthly salary of Rs.55000/-, I HAD TO RESIGN THAT JOB by giving 30 days notice. Since I had been given 3 weeks time to join the new company I could not give 30 days notice period time to my employer. Hence I RESIGNED WITH IMMEDIATE EFFECT FROM 1ST JUNE 2011 AFTER SURRENDERING ONE MONTHS SALARY.

    THEREAFTER My INNUMERABLE MAILS TO Mr.ALBERTO DE LACRUZ , HR MANAGER OF MMG SA DID NOT ELICIT ANY REPLY FROM HIM. My case was put on hold for three months and finally I am told in August that my visa has been canceled by MMG. However, almost all persons recruited for the project in Saudi have traveled to Saudi Arabia and have started working there since 23rd of June. Only selectively, some persons including me are left out. I am shattered and thrown on the street. My family life is destroyed by the irresponsible and indifferent attitude of MMG.

    I had been without job and income(UNEMPLOYED) for 6 YEARS. And I manager to get a job in India only last year . I am 55 yrs old. The job I was doing was earning me Rs.55000/- per month. I have taken education loan of 11 lakhs for my sons’ education. Their studies are midway. It will take another three to five yrs for them to complete studies and start earning.

    I have been thrown on the street jobless for no fault of mine. I am 55 yrs old and how is it possible for me to find a job at this age in india. With great difficult, I managed to get a job in india in April 2010. Even though initially the salary was less now it has been gradually enhanced to Rs.55000/-. Because of the irresponsible way of recruitment procedure by MMG, I am again thrown on the street.

    MMG is unscrupulous in exploiting INDIAN JOB MARKET. They recruit randomly unmindful of their actual requirement, make the recruited persons wait for months indefinitely without any benefit and finally cancel the assignment without any reason for no fault of the job seekers. There are so many innocent job seekers like me suffering silently without knowing what to do..

    The purpose of bringing my case to your kind notice is to bring to book the unscrupulous recruiters like MMG by blacklisting them and forbidding the erring overseas recruiter(MMG) to recruit in india to save innocent job seekers in Indian job market which is the primary responsibility of your ministry and I am confident that you will do it.
    Dear sir, MMG in Saudi Arabia should be made to compensate me for the financial loses suffered by me because of their wrong handling/misguidance of recruitment procedure resulting in my loss of job and thereby depriving me and my family of my daily bread. Since the Offer I got from MMG, Saudi Arabia was attractive I. e. SR 11000/-PM, I decided to quit the job and accepted the MMG offer. Forget the salary; it is no longer possible to get a job for me at this age since Indian job market is overflowing with young, qualified and cheap job seekers.

    Since they gave me 3 weeks time I had to resign my job hurriedly, travel by air to visit my mother in my native place and had to incur other incidental expenses amounting to Rs.22850/- which they have to reimburse

    In addition, towards compensation for the loss of job/source of income they have to pay amount equal to 2 yrs salary in Saudi Reyal. They offered Per Month @SR11000 and hence it comes to SR11000 X 24= SR 264000.

    The IRRESPONSIBLE AND UNSCRUPULOUS Overseas Employer, MMG of Saudi Arabia has to REIMBURSE THE EXPENSES I INURED AT THEIR BEHEST AND THE COMPENSATION FOR FORCING ME QUIT MY JOB AND DEPRIVING ME AND MY FAMILY OF OUR DAILY BREAD AND MY SONS’ HIGHER EDUCATION and to teach a lesson to erring overseas company MMG TO BE BLACKLISTED AND FORBIDDEN FROM RECRUITING FROM INDIA and any other countries.

    This tech showed up,sat in his car a half hour, then pulled off.
    An onl man called, the owner, and was rude and mean saying I did not answer the phone or the back door doorbell..

    We dont have a back door bell,only a front,the tech never got out of the car or called us.

    The owner went on to say that we have 3 ferocious dogs in the garage, we have 2 toy yorkies, they are 3 pounds each and 8 inches long.

    The tech was untruthful,lazy and very unprofessional. The owner was very rude,mean and unprofessional also.
    We requested a service, took the morning off to be here, and this so called company was so silly, they drove all the way here , only to not even get out the truck to get the job done .
    We will never use this company and have placed a sign in our develpment warnning our neighbors against using such a horrible company!!!
