The new album is a full release and was made available to anybody with a email address and a mouse. I for one am glad to see successful artist like NIN and Radiohead cutting there hourly wage back to show fans and record labels what music is really about. Image all those record execs trying to come up with a marketing strategy to compete with free music. In contrast not all artist are ready to give up that piece of pie. In a recent radio interview with Maynard James Keenan from the bands Tool, A Perfect Circle, and Pusifer Maynard encouraged people to “try it” but made it clear that he isn’t going to anytime soon. In the end artist should be able to charge for a Cd and receive some return but also they should be able to give away what they made if they want to. Just another upside to not having a major label.
