Warning to All Voters: Governments Lie

I feel like this topic has been covered many times before, but for the new young voters in this election, this is all news to them. We are taught in public schools from a very young age that all presidents are going to be great. I borrowed the phrase in my title, “governments lie”, from one of the world’s best known investigative journalist, I.F. Stone. Now unfortunately, since we have all been subjected to so much misinformation starting at a very young age, we all have a hard time swallowing and realistically accepting this phrase. To be more precise than Stone and get closer to the root of our problems, I will proceed with the phrase, presidents lie.

How our new president will lie to us too

EscortNow most of us believe that President Bill Clinton was a great president and that he helped our country change and move past a failed Bush administration. Clinton had his wife right on the front lines fighting for heath care for every American. He pushed for more money for our schools, and a stronger social security system; Bill wanted civil rightsfor every person, whether white, black, latino or any ethnic background; he was worried about the disabled and the elderly and how they were going to be taken care of. Now almost 16 years later what do we have? Next to none of those things.

Replace the words Bill and “he” with Obama

Now I am really sorry to break this to not just young voters, but voters of every age. I, too, want to charge the front lines and cheer freedom and democracy for everybody! Unfortunately that is simply not going to be easy with Obama or McCain in the white house. One, McCain is a Bush copy, his stance on nearly every issue is the same as Bush’s, and he is just running to keep the two party system alive. When it comes to Obama his stance is nearly identical to every democratic presidential nominee for at least the last 30 years. Obama is paid by the same companies and corporations that had funded those same presidents for the last half decade as well. What this boils down to is a lot of empty promises. It’s also worth to note, Obama is backed by the WTO and the World Bank. If you don’t know who they are and what they do, check out the article Rising food prices and the WTO from DemocracyNow.org. Trust me, the rabbit hole goes deeper.

Who is George Orwell and why should I care?

animalfarmOrwell was an English Journalist, political essayist (modern day term is lobbyist), and novelist who was actually named Eric Blair. Orwell is known nowadays more for his fiction than non-fiction simply because it revealed more to readers about the real world. Politicians and Presidents learned many things from Orwell and his writings over the last 70 or so years.
Orwell coined the phrase “double think”. An example would be a liberal conservative. If you don’t inherently see a problem with the term, liberal conservative, you should be worried about what politicians are saying to you. If you already see the problem then I think you can read between the lines enough to get past the hype.

How to solve the problem

I do not claim and frankly don’t have the all in one fix for our world today, but I can give some words of advice on how to help us think and hopefully move more progressively. Start off by voting for a third party. Do not listen to the hype that “you will be hurting Obama and the democratic party”, you have to accept they do not have your best interest in mind. Every democratic president has always been very far to the right of true public opinion. If you read the polls and compare them to the candidates they are way off to the right. A third party candidate is like the best friend you had back in high school. They are the friend that never wanted money from you or had something in mind to gain from your friend ship. They were always your true friend and always stood by your side all of the time. I know it will not magically solve all of our problems but at least we would have somebody in the white house that listens to Americans and responds to the wishes of the people. Every day is new and every day can change. Thanks for reading.

  1. Yes, but if ‘governments lie’ then wouldn’t a third party candidate also lie? I understand that a third party member wouldn’t be bound to the strict liberal or conservative ways of the democrats and republicans, but that doesn’t mean he/she would do any better in office.

I guess that voting comes down to one thing - whichever candidate fits you most, regardless of their choice of party. No matter who wins, they’re going to lie. The candidates only state what they want to do with the country, actually doing it is a completely different story haha.

And I’ve heard a lot about George Orwell. My friend is obsessed with his book 1984… it’s on my list of books to read.
